Best Keto Meal Delivery In Australia: 2021 Comparison Guide

Updated: May 7, 2022

If you can’t stand long and tedious grocery shops or deciding what to make for dinner each week, there are easy ways to take the hassle out of choosing the Keto lifestyle. With options like pre-prepared low carb meals or even a keto cooking service, you can say goodbye to the chores you don’t like and still enjoy healthy keto meals.

With just a few clicks, you can have a variety of prepared meals arrive at your doorstep – even if you have complex dietary requirements. When your choice of meals is limited to foods with the right amount of fat and carbohydrates for ketosis, it may feel like you don’t have many options.

The good news is that in 2021, Australians have more keto meal delivery options than ever! Some of these meal companies also offer low-calorie, gluten-free, high-protein, vegetarian, and vegan meals, as well as labelling common allergens. Keto meal delivery services prepare specific dishes with the right nutrients and macronutrient ratio to meet your dietary needs. Of course, not all so-called ‘keto meals’ are made equal, so you’ll want to know how these different brands perform on carbs and on taste.

This article rounds up the most popular keto meal delivery providers in Australia. Drawing on genuine keto meal delivery service reviews, this comparison guide will help you weigh up the pros and cons of each prepared meal service.

Note: prices, meals and macros are all accurate at the time of publishing, but some of these providers regularly change their meal selection or recipes. Be sure to check the brand’s website for the most recent information.

Fresh Keto Meals Delivered in Australia

Eager to have fresh keto meals delivered to your door? Any of the following meal service providers can provide you with nutritious low-carb dishes ready to heat and eat.

These options are fresh meals, meaning they aren’t frozen – but you may have the option to freeze them after delivery. Be sure to check how long the meals will last and whether they’re suitable for freezing to ensure your food is safe to eat.

To give you a balanced perspective on the pros and cons of each meal delivery service, even those who don’t deliver here in WA, I’ve drawn on genuine customer reviews. All opinions expressed are included in the linked reviews, and if you’ve tried any of these low carb meal services yourself, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Note that these brands are those who promote themselves as a keto or low carb option in Australia. The truth is that not all of them are ideal for keto – reaching ketosis usually requires a daily carb intake of 20 grams or under, while ‘low carb’ can mean anywhere between 50 and 150 grams per day.

The CSIRO low carb diet, for example, aims for 50 – 70 grams of low-GI carbohydrates per day. If this is your goal, even the higher-carb meals on this list might be good options for you.

Meals over 10 to 12 grams of carbohydrates will be challenging to fit into a strict keto meal plan, though it may be practical if you’re practising intermittent fasting. I’ve included a selection of meals and their macronutrient splits so you can weigh up which option best suits your individual dietary needs.

Macros deliver weekly on a Sunday night and feature meals suitable for people on dairy-free, paleo, plant-based, and low carb diets. Macros also focuses on athletes and bodybuilders, and their meals reflect that, with specific meals to ‘sculpt’, ‘gain’ or ‘perform’ in the gym.

Depending on the plan chosen, Macros adjusts the portion size and proportion of ingredients in their dishes – so a lower-carb ‘sculpt’ dish is 300 grams, while ‘gain’ meals are 450 grams. The ‘gain’ version of their Coconut Chicken & Lentil stew adds sweet potato, while the ‘sculpt’ version has less vegetable content.

Whether they really count as keto-friendly, the one thing that can be said is that all these providers offer fresh meals conveniently delivered to your door.

Frozen Keto Meals Delivered

Just because a meal is frozen doesn’t mean it sacrifices flavour or nutrition. Frozen food can be equally as nutritious as fresh food, and in some cases, retains even more nutrients. Freezing food doesn’t change its carbohydrate content, so the macronutrient split of frozen meals will be the same as when they were cooked fresh.

While most meal providers prepare and deliver fresh food, other providers see the value and practicality of delivering frozen meals. If you’d prefer the benefits of both, a keto meal prep service can create customised dishes with some portions fresh and some frozen.

But if you’re looking to buy low-carb frozen meals for delivery, here are some of the options now available in Australia. Some of these fall into the ‘keto’ range, while some are just ‘low carb’ but a bit too high for ketosis.

Be Fit Food

Be Fit Food specialises in preparing dietitian-approved, nutritionally balanced frozen meals for those who are eating specific diets, including rapid or gradual weight-loss meal plans. The company is a registered NDIS provider and also provides personalised nutrition plans. You can even book a 15-minute free dietician consultation with Be Fit Food.

In collaboration with CSIRO, Be Fit has developed a low-carb meal selection to suit the CSIRO low carb diet. All meals are under 20 grams of carbohydrates, which is still fairly high for keto, but suits CSIRO’s daily goal of a 50 to 70 gram carb intake.

Be Fit Food Low Carb Meal Examples:

· Spanish Eggs – 5.0g of carbs, 19.4g of protein and 17.3g of fat per serving.

· Chilli & Ginger Baked Fish – 10.3g of carbs, 25.8g of protein and 7.7g of fat per serving.

· Satay Chicken (GF) – 8.0g of carbs, 22.0g of protein and 14.7g of fat per serving.

· Individual meals start at $7.95.

· For a keto meal bundle, prices range from $74 for a 7-meal bundle to $278.50 for a 28-meal bundle.

· They have meal plans specifically for keto diets, like their 28-meal plan. This comes with twenty-eight meals for $283.95, with each meal having less than 20g of carbs and over 20g of protein with many gluten-free and vegetarian meals.

Be Fit Food Delivery Areas:

Be Fit Food’s delivery area includes Victoria, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania. They also have retail food stores in Morningtown, Victoria as well as click-and-collect locations.

Pros of Be Fit Food Meals:

Cons of Be Bit Food Meals:

· Some meals stated to be bland and tasteless

· Portion size is small, between 200g and 300g for most dishes

· Value for money not being met for many customers

Dietlicious provides frozen meals to the Eastern States of Australia, with both individual meals and meal plans available. They have a solid focus on being adaptable for any diet, with alternatives for gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan, pescetarian, diabetic and high protein diets. They also have keto meals alongside their high and low-calorie weight loss meals.

At Dietlicious, you can choose between two keto meal plans or order individual meals. Unfortunately, some of the meal plans contain dishes as high as 19 to 24 grams of carbohydrates (more than a daily allowance on keto), and there are no swaps available on plans.

What’s confusing is that the meal plans claim to offer 16 grams of carbs per day, despite having 29-gram lunches and 18-gram dinners on the list. Only one lunch and one dinner are under 7 grams of carbs per serving. The ‘average’ of 15 grams only applies if you eat a lunch or a dinner per day – not both!

On the plus side, Dietlicious does have a selection of much lower carb keto meals that aren’t included in the meal plans. These all have less than 10 grams of carbohydrates, with some between 1 and 5 grams.

Dietary Options:

· Weight loss

· Pescetarian

· Diabetic

· Vegan

· High Protein

· Gluten-Free

· Vegetarian

Dietlicious Keto Meal Examples:

· Salmon Teriyaki with Broccoli and Garlic Oil – 5g of carbs, 34g of protein and 13g of fat per serving.

· Caramelised Chicken Salad with Lemongrass– 8g of carbs, 29g of protein and 14g of fat per serving.

· Lamb and Fetta Salad – 3g of carbs, 30g of protein and 23g of fat per serving.

· Individual meals start from $7.50 and range up to $14.

· They feature two weekly meal kits for keto diets. For instance, their Keto-Friendly Pack 1 has five lunch and five dinner meals for $132, though these are higher-carb than the individual meals.

Dietlicious Delivery Area:

Dietlicious’s delivery area includes Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, and the surrounding areas.

Pros of Dietlicious Meals:

· Lots of meal options to choose from, including very low-carb choices

· Offers a loyalty program and local pickup in some cities

· Meals are genuinely suitable for keto (aside from the meal plans)

Cons of Dietlicious Meals:

· Some reviews mention poor customer service

· Many reviews complain about the food quality

· Some meals require basic cooking

Core Powerfoods

Core Powerfoods creates meal plans and menus mainly for bodybuilders, athletes, and active people. As such, most of their dishes are high in protein. In addition, they have a variety of nutrition packs that cater to fitness needs and special diets. Their products are also available in over 3000 stores across Australia.

Now for the bad news: there are only two low-carb options in the Core Powerfoods range, and neither of them are available in Coles stores. With the options of chicken, broccoli and green beans with or without seasonings, you may find a Core Powerfoods keto diet quickly gets boring.

Plain chicken and veggies may be the ultimate ‘clean’ food, but keto meals don’t have to lack flavour, either! If you’re in a pinch, though, these Core Powerfoods meals tick the boxes as long as you have other sources of fats in your diet.

Core Powerfoods Low Carb Meal Examples:

· Naked Chicken – 4.3g of carbs, 45.5g of protein and 3.6g of fat per serving.

· Seismic Chicken – 7.0g of carbs, 43.4g of protein and 9g of fat per serving.

· Individual meals from Core Powerfoods are $9 each, with a $49 order minimum.

· They also offer pre-made packs of meals, but none that are low carb or keto.

Core Powerfoods Delivery Area:

Core Powerfoods deliver meals all over Australia. They can also be purchased in supermarket freezer sections, though the low-carb meals aren’t stocked.

Pros of Core Powerfoods Meals:

· High protein meals for those requiring more in their diet

· Simple, clean ingredients to customise with your own low carb seasonings

· Naked Chicken provides an option without salt or other additives

Cons of Core Powerfoods Meals

· Minimal options and variety for keto dieters

· Reports of poor quality meals

Alternatives To Keto Meal Delivery

Keto meal deliveries, whether fresh or frozen, are a convenient option for many. They’re easy to prepare – just reheat them in your microwave, and you’re ready to enjoy your steaming meal.

But while they’re a quick fix for singles, it’s hard to cater for a family using fresh or frozen meals, and you also have no control over the taste. For example, do you want your dishes saltier, sweeter, or spicier? What if you have a specific allergy or food intolerance you want to adjust for?

Luckily, pre-made keto meals aren’t the only option out there. You have the option of ordering a keto-friendly meal kit or consider a keto cooking service that can customise all the recipes exactly the way you want them.

Benefits Of A Low Carb Cooking Service

There are many benefits of a cooking service compared to a meal kit or frozen meals. Cooking services are a fantastic alternative for busy people who don’t have the time to cook themselves but still want homemade quality meals. Everything from the chopping to the cleaning up is handled by your own personal cook, in your own home, so you know exactly how it’s being prepared. A cooking service also offers the most customisation possible; you have complete control over everything! Your budget and taste dictate everything about your menu, down to the smallest details, such as what herbs we use and the types of oils and sauces we cook with. If there are some veggies your kids just won’t eat, or you need to avoid a specific allergen, meals can be adapted or reworked to suit.

You have the freedom to choose from a full menu of low-carb, macro-friendly meals, and you can make substitutions as needed – for instance, swapping chicken for beef or removing nightshades from a recipe. Meal kits and frozen meals are very rigid with their ingredients, and you can’t really be sure what’s gone into each dish. When you work with a cooking service, you work with real cooks to meet your family’s needs. By choosing your own ingredients, you have control over quantity AND quality.

A keto cooking service will prep, cook and pack ready-to-eat meals that are fresh or freezer-ready, giving you the best of both worlds.

Related Questions

Is Youfoodz Keto Friendly?

Youfoodz offers a low carb meal plan; however, it still has too many carbs for an effective keto diet plan. Featuring options like Clean Roast Pork & Clean Chicken Tikka Masala, these meals still contain enough carbs to throw out your daily or weekly carb allowance. If you are purchasing Youfoodz products, be sure to check the exact amounts of carbs in each meal. Although the low carb option may, in fact, have lower carbs than their other meals, it’s still too high-carb for a keto diet.

What Frozen Dinners Are Keto-Friendly?

There are many keto-friendly frozen dinners in Australia, though most must be ordered online rather than purchased in supermarkets. Be Fit Foods and Dietlicious both offer low carb frozen meals for delivery across several states. Core Powerfoods low carb meals can also be bought in the supermarket freezer section.
