Description

Flavoured oils are a great gift for any keen cook or BBQ lover. They are easy to make and look lovely presented in a nice bottle.

Some ideas for flavours are:

Garlic

Dried chilli

Herbs - fresh or dried

Lemongrass

Citrus zest

Pepper

You want to heat the oil over a low heat or else it will change the oil's flavour profile and become too rancid.

When washing herbs, make sure you wash them well in advance and make sure they dry properly.

Oils made with fresh ingredients like herbs and garlic can support the growth of C. botulinum, a dangerous bacteria that can make you very sick. Store flavoured oils with fresh garlic or herbs in the fridge and use within 10 days.

Instructions

  1. Place oil in a saucepan and warm over a low heat until the mix begins to bubble, then continue for a few more minutes until fragrant.

  2. Remove from the heat, add the flavour and set aside for approximately 30 minute to cool.

  3. Using a funnel, pour into a clean and dry bottle and seal. Make sure you also get the flavour in the bottle (garlic cloves, chilli etc)

  4. Store in a cool place for a week before using.

  5. Once open, store in the fridge.
